The Egyptian Public Prosecution ordered the imprisonment of the ill-fated Dakahlia bus driver, who overturned in a canal in the city of Mansoura, north of Cairo.

The Public Prosecution issued a statement, which it posted on Facebook, in which it said that the accident resulted in the death of 20 people, while 8 others were injured.

The Public Prosecution confirmed that the police seized the bus driver and transferred them to the hospital to discuss the bodies and interrogate the injured.

The injured, when asked about the incident, indicated that the driver was talking on his mobile phone at the moment of the disaster, so he could not avoid another car and fell into the water.

The prosecution explained that it had interrogated the bus driver, who in turn denied the revelations of the accident victims, but later it became clear that he was using a narcotic substance at the moment of the accident, according to a preliminary medical analysis he underwent.

The statement continued: “The Public Prosecution decided to present the driver to the Forensic Medicine Authority to conduct a final analysis for him to indicate the extent of his use of narcotic substances, and it also authorized the burial of the bodies that had been identified, and samples were taken from the rest of the unknown bodies until their identity was determined, and investigations are being completed.”

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Health, had revealed the death toll of the victims of a bus accident inside a canal in Dakahlia Governorate, north of Egypt.

Abdel Ghaffar said, in an exclusive statement to Al-Ain news, that the accident resulted in the death of 20 people, all of whom died of asphyxiation by drowning.

Major General Marwan Habib, Director of Dakahlia Security in Egypt, received a notification from the Aga Police Station warden of a notification to the Rescue Police Department that a bus loaded with passengers had fallen into a canal on the “Meit Ghamr-Mansoura” road.

The river rescue forces, investigation officers, and ambulances moved to the place of the communication, and the examination revealed that a bus had fallen in the Al-Rih Al-Tawfiqi canal in front of the Aja drainage station, and the victims were inside the bus and in the water.

Dr. Nevin Al-Qabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity in Egypt, directed quickly dealing with the repercussions of the accident to help the families, as the Relief Committee of the Directorate of Social Solidarity in the governorate immediately moved to the site of the accident to inspect it, count the loss of life, and help the families and the injured.

It was decided to disburse an amount of 50,000 pounds in the event of the death of the head of the family, 25,000 pounds in the event of the death of a family member, and an amount of 5,000 pounds for each injury case, according to the period of stay of the injured person in the hospital. “.

Al-Qabbaj offered her sincere condolences to the families of the victims, directing them to provide the assistance needed by the afflicted families, and to mobilize resources from NGOs to provide more assistance to the families.
