The journey of chicken legs from “animal feed” to the tables of the Egyptians (dialogue)

Society The Journey of Chicken Legs from “Animal Feed” to the Tables of Egyptians (Dialogue) Updated Wednesday 12/28/2022 12:30 PM Abu Dhabi time The National Institute of Nutrition in Egypt a few days ago sparked a sensation after talking about the health benefits of eating “chicken legs.” on his official Facebook page. The institute noted that chicken legs are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals necessary for skin tissue repair and muscle growth, and above all, they are inexpensive on a financial level. Is “Chicken Legs” useful in health?.. “Al-Ain news” answers a question that aroused the interest of Egyptians. This publication, issued by an institute affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Health, still casts a shadow over the Egyptian society, so many were divided about it in terms of interpreting what is meant by it between supporters and opponents. . Arriving at the narration of the benefits of “chicken legs”, came after a number of crises that the poultry market in Egypt had suffered in recent weeks, following the emergence of problems that led to an increase in the selling price of a kilo of chicken. To find out the reality of the situation, Al-Ain news contacted Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Sayed, Head of the Poultry Division of the Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, who in turn recounted the crisis from its inception, up to the advice to eat “chicken legs”…and to the text of the dialogue. What do you think of the National Institute of Nutrition’s review of the benefits of eating chicken legs? My personal opinion is that this is provocative and has no value, and it has no place for parsing. Why are they talking about legs today? Is it implanted? If a person owns a chicken, will he leave it and eat its legs? This is illogical talk that arouses the ire of the simple and its timing is wrong. What happened to the poultry market in Egypt, so that the conversation focused on eating chicken legs? There is a crisis in fodder, and a crisis in production requirements, in a way that led to a scarcity of up to 50%, until a gap appeared that created a black market in which prices rise to the highest degree. The foregoing ended with an increase in fodder prices, and the price of one ton of it reaching 24 thousand Egyptian pounds, then it decreased to 22 thousand pounds recently, and this is in the wake of the statement of the Prime Minister, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, to prepare to release all production requirements in the ports, and this is an excellent thing And very good. Why did the feed shipments remain in the ports for a period without being released? The main reason is due to the scarcity of the dollar. When the importer agrees to import a specific quantity, he prepays 10% of the required amount in favor of the exporting company, and waits for the shipment to arrive at the port. At that time, he must prepare his papers and pay the rest of the amount by depositing an amount in favor of a local bank in Egyptian pounds, which That would give him dollars to pay the remaining amount to the exporter, but the scarcity of US currency in banks created a crisis that impeded the receipt of feed shipments, and thus it remained imprisoned for a while in the ports. According to your follow-up to the market movement.. Why did poultry feed prices rise? The matter is very simple due to the increase in feed industry inputs and production requirements, which led to a rise in feed prices from 13 thousand Egyptian pounds per ton to 15 thousand pounds, then 18 thousand pounds, until it reached 24 thousand pounds per ton before the last drop. What is the crisis facing poultry breeders in the current period? There is a matter related to selling poultry to citizens without taking into account the real cost or the fair price paid by the breeder. Today, the price of one kilo of chicken reaches 43 pounds, although the real cost exceeds 50 pounds. How is the actual cost of poultry farming calculated? First, one chicken eats 3.5 kg of feed, knowing that the price of one kilogram of feed is 22 pounds, meaning the total amount of feed becomes 77 pounds. Then we add the cost of the chick, whose price reaches 8 pounds, bringing the total amount so far to 85 pounds. There are also the costs of veterinary medicines, heating, immunizations, electricity, labor, and the death rate, which is approximately 15 Egyptian pounds. Thus, the cost of one chicken ranges between 100 and 102 Egyptian pounds, and since it weighs 2 kilograms, the price per kilo becomes 50 or 51 Egyptian pounds. Can the chicks be sold to citizens at the actual cost price? This may actually happen in the event of a clear scarcity in the market, then the cost of one kilo will be 57 pounds. What is the secret of culling chicks? There is no purchase or entry of new courses for educators. Can prices go down in the future? It is possible by reducing the prices of production inputs, with the need to monitor the market in a way that guarantees a decrease in the prices of feed. The situation must also be followed up once the release of the feed is completed in the ports, to ensure that importers do not exercise monopoly and exploit the circumstances by raising prices. Did the aforementioned crises pave the way for talking about the benefits of eating chicken legs recently? Of course, this angers the low-income citizen. Whoever put forward this idea should be held accountable. What are the uses of chicken legs before talking about the benefits of eating them? The legs were exported to China, or sold as leftovers that make up the “fodder” and protein for the fish.
