Russia praises the role of the UAE and Saudi Arabia in exchanging prisoners with Washington

Today, Friday, Russia praised the role played by the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia in the exchange of prisoners between Moscow and Washington.

This came on the lips of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in a statement on the Russian Channel One today, Friday, and was reported by the “Russia Today” website.

“We highly appreciate the role of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, which have traditionally tried to make a significant contribution to such operations,” Peskov said.

In response to a question about whether this role could also contribute to the exchange of a person with the American prisoner in Russia, Paul Whelan, Peskov replied: “If necessary, the special services will continue their work.”

Yesterday, Thursday, a joint Emirati-Saudi statement announced that the two countries had led mediation efforts for the exchange of prisoners between the United States and Russia.

The statement revealed the success of the mediation led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, for the release and exchange of two prisoners between the United States and Russia.

Success in mediation reflects the mutual and strong friendship between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the United States and Russia, and the important role played by the leaderships of the two brotherly countries in promoting dialogue between all parties.

US President Joe Biden, in turn, thanked the UAE for its role in completing the prisoner exchange.

The prisoner exchange included American basketball player Brittney Greiner, who has been held in Russia since February, and Victor Bot, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence in the United States.
